A Journey from the Streets to a Safe Haven
Whisky, a gentle one-year-old golden retriever, was found heavily pregnant wandering the streets alone. Her condition suggested she had escaped from a backyard breeder—a plight all too common and fraught with cruelty, particularly for female dogs exploited for relentless breeding.
On that fateful day, a kind Samaritan noticed her and immediately contacted a local reporter, who reached out to Saakshi from Big Bagheera. Without hesitation, Whisky was brought to the Triloke and Big Bagheera office, a place that soon became the first safe haven she had known. That very night, under the watchful care of compassionate individuals, Whisky gave birth to nine beautiful golden retriever puppies. Tragically, one of the pups did not survive the day, but the story of the remaining eight is nothing short of miraculous.
Under the nurturing environment at Triloke, Whisky and her puppies received all the care they needed—proper food, essential vaccinations, and an abundance of love. The puppies thrived, their personalities blossoming, becoming incredibly friendly and sociable, traits that would make them perfect family companions.
After 50 days with their mother, a critical period for their initial growth and development, each puppy was ready to find a forever home. The adoption process was meticulous, with a preference for homes that had no dogs or already well-balanced dogs, ensuring the puppies would continue to receive the guidance and companionship they needed.
The key issue was that when Congress enacted the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act (OCSLA), it gave the president authority to withdraw areas from oil and gas leasing, but made no mention of revoking previous withdrawals.
Today, each of Whisky’s puppies resides in a loving home, cherished by families that adore them. These pups are now living their best lives, a testament to what can be achieved with compassion and community support.
